Making Applesauce

I bought some apple seconds(bruised and ripe) at the farmers market with the intention of baking. My daughter asked if we could cook something together and the apples came to mind. Why not make some applesauce!

With the big cutting board and a child safe knife, we begun our project. I took the cores out while she chopped them into bite-sized pieces. We added just a splash of apple juice and a small cinnamon stick and cooked them over simmer for about 40 minutes.

After it had cooled a bit, I mashed it with a potato masher. She did not like the consistency(not like the kind we buy) so I blended it with a hand blender. Much better:)

Our house filled with the warming smell of the cinnamon and apple, a very nice reminder that it is autumn(something we tend to forget with all the sun and heat in SoCal).
