Dinner Party at the Mooney’s

My in-laws had planned a dinner get-together with everyone in town, my husband being the guest of honor. He had to delay his flight for work and we had the dinner party without him. It would be nice to see everyone, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Brock, my father-in-law, and I would be in charge of the meal. In the last few years he and I have found a connection in cooking. We like to talk about food, cook together, eat together, and watch cooking-related TV shows. He asks my thoughts on anything food-related and I call him when I need food advice. It is great to have him in my life.

I went by the Ballard farmers market in the morning and picked up a beautiful sockeye salmon from the guys at Loki. Brock bought some pork ribs. I made some pie dough with Kerry gold Irish butter and shelled some fresh peas I bought at the market the day before.

Dinner came together beautifully! I prepped the salmon for the grill, cut and seasoned summer squash rounds, baked a raspberry galette and a rhubarb galette, sautéed onion, pancetta, and peas, and Brock baked the ribs and made a cabbage slaw. We were just finishing up when the first guests arrived. Perfect.

Everyone had a great time. Too bad my husband was not able to be here to enjoy with us.
