Room 20’s garden

We started the gardens by the front gate right away this year.  My son’s class is closest to the front of the school this year, in Room 20, so we are fortunate enough to be able to make use of those raised beds.  We have planted all three boxes, one with pumpkins, one with squash and peas, and the other with carrots, cilantro, and lettuce.

They are all doing beautifully, except for the pumpkin, which has a leaf mold that I cannot contain.  It still is fun, with it’s vines and flowers spread all over the pavement.  Soon I will have to erect some poles and string for the peas to climb, as this warm weather has helped it grow fast.

I painted some signs in the weeks past, showing passerbys our garden pride.  One of the signs announces what we are growing, with a little attatched paper, written by the kids.  Both signs are in english and spanish, as our class is a dual language class.

Probably as soon as December, we will be harvesting salad makings.  And hopefully some delicata squash for roasting.  Yum!
