work party in the garden

p4240023011

Saturday was spent in the school garden, with a work crew of around twenty people. It was amazing how quickly all the work, that I had been putting off, got finished. And people seemed to be enjoying themselves! There was even mention of continuing the work we had started with a monthly work day. I am all for it!

I have spent the last three years working in the garden mostly on my own. The kids come in to plant and harvest but the maintenance has always been done solely by me. I thought I had tried to get others involved but no one seemed interested. I guess I didn’t try hard enough.

Now we have three newly cleared beds that are ready for planting. We have never, in the history of the garden, had all the beds planted with seeds. Usually there are two or three that are full of weeds or some other volunteer plant that attract beneficial bugs, so I leave it. All I have to do now is get some more seeds!

Hurray for community!!
