Vegetable gardens crop up in Seattle parking strips-Seattle Times article

As I browsed the net this morning, I came across some inspiration, which happens very rarely while reading the news.  In Seattle, my hometown, the City Council has decided to drop the fees and paperwork involved in getting gardens put up in those little grassy areas between the street and the sidewalk.

More and more people are growing their own food, right out from their front door.  And it seems to be bringing the communities together as well.  Neighbors venture out of their homes, to congregate around the gardens and see what’s growing.  Not only is it providing nutritious food, that only had to travel somewhere around 100 feet, but it is bringing people together, at a time where people are more and more isolated from one another.

Sounds like a win-win for all involved!  With all the negative news out there, it’s nice to see little victories like this one.  Change can happen, with small actions by each of us! All the more reason to get involved in your communities.
