First day of Fall in our Learning Garden

Today we said goodbye to summer and hello to fall.  I invited, both returning students and new one, to the garden, to say hello and talk about the upcoming season.  I put together a poster, illustrating “Seasons in the Garden”, with the foods that can be grown during different times of the year.  With that list, I let them decide what we would be planting.  Some of them set on growing things out of season, we discussed why we can grow tomatoes and peppers in the summer and not in the fall. They shared their ideas about what we can make with what we grow.  They were very excited to share their own experiences.

Next week we will planting our seeds and starting a weekly schedule of visits to the garden, to check on the progress.  So far we have six classes signed up, but we have room for a handful more.  It would be great to see all the beds growing, tall and green!

It’s moving (touching) to me to see you do this with the kids. Very special! Keep up the good work!
